It's time to get close up and personal with 60 alpacas at the BLUE HEAVEN ALPACAS. The alpacas are not only for show, but they are bred and sold here as well. Their fleece is processed into yarn and the on-site farm store offers many products made by locals and several other items which have been purchased from Peru.
Lunch will be served on a grand-scale today at the very grand STEELE MANSION. It was built in 1867 and has been described at the "grandest home in Painesville." The French Second Empire home features a third-floor ballroom, 8 marble fireplaces, windows imported from France, 3 bathrooms and ornate walnut doors, stairs and trim. Our group will have a guided tour of this grand dame after lunch is served. Today we will dine on Chicken Cacciatore, Pasta, Salad, Rolls and Butter, Dessert and Beverage. During lunch you will hear about the 150-year story of the mansions history and view a collection of photographs.
Variety is the word for this afternoon's shopping in Lake County. There are several area shops to explore and listed below are a select few that we may visit or we may pick and choose other options as time allows. The CRAFT SMITHS in Perry offers a lovely gift shop and gallery for local arts and crafts. The BUILDING 3 FURNITURE AND MATTRESS in Painesville which is located in a miscellaneous barn complex offers used furniture, antiques, collectibles and all new mattresses. The unique HOMESPUN TOUCH POTTERY also in Painesville, offers stoneware pottery featuring leaf and botanical imprints. And, the downtown area of Mentor boasts the 7th largest retail shopping district in Ohio!!! Let's see what the afternoon brings.
