NOT ONE ..NOT TWO ..BUT THREE FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT HOMES!!!
MILL RUN, CHALK HILL, AND POLYMATH PARK, PENNSYLVANIA
MAY 13-14, 2019
MAY 13, 2019: Our motorcoach arrives at 6:15 AM to Lorain County Community College, 1005 Abbe Road, Elyria, where we will load luggage and passengers. We will depart by luxury motorcoach at 6:30 AM. After a rest stop, we will travel on to meet our step-on-guide. There will be a stop in Ohio Pyle, Pennsylvania at FALLS MARKET for lunch and a brief visit to the FALLS on the YOUGHIOGHENY RIVER. After lunch, we travel to Mill Run, Pennsylvania where we will tour, FALLINGWATER, the most famous of all Frank Lloyd Wright home designs. Built over a waterfall, this masterpiece of architecture has been named on of "50 places of a lifetime" by national Geographic Traveler magazine. Fallingwater was built as more of a vacation home, whereas KENTUCK KNOB, our next stop, located in Chalk Hill, Pennsylvania, was built as the year-round residence of the Hagan Family for over 20 years. You will come away from this home thinking that "you could live there." Dinner this evening, will be at the Historic Stone House or the Summit Inn in Farmington, Pennsylvania after which we will check into our hotel, the UNIONTOWN HAMPTON INN.
MAY 14, 2019: After breakfast we will depart our hotel and check in with our local guide. It is time to visit our third Wright home, the DUNCAN HOUSE. This home was built in 1957 and disassembled and reconstructed to its original state at Polymath Park in 2007. The Duncan House is an example of Wright's Usonian design which is a simple, stylish house of moderate cost designed especially for the American middle class. Lunch today will be at the OAKHURST GRILLE. A full buffet will be featured including a soup/salad bar, hot bar and dessert bar. In the afternoon, we will visit the FLIGHT 93 MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Here you will see the United Airlines Crew Monument and inside the Chapel are many items that have been donated by the family members of the passengers of Flight 93. At the FLIGHT 93 NATIONAL MEMORIAL we will visit the Wall of Names of the 40 Heroes of Flight 93. This location is the closest site to the impact of Flight 93. At the Indoor Visitor Center there are many exhibits, videos, photos and mementos relating to 9/11 and Flight 93. The new VOICES OF FLIGHT 93 offers a 93-foot tall tower which houses 40 large windchimes, each with a uniquely different tone. Together, in the breeze, they are the VOICES of FLIGHT 93. There will be a stop at an Eat n' Park restaurant for dinner and we are scheduled to arrive back to Lorain County Community College at 11:00 PM.
