THURSDAY, APRIL 23, 2020: After breakfast, we are off to discover WHEATLAND, the beloved home of the 15th President of the United States, James Buchanan. The two and one-half story, five bay Federal house was built in 1828 and purchased by the President in 1848. Most of the furniture is original to the house. It provides an accurate view of the lifestyle in the Victorian era. Now it's time to visit the JULIUS STURGIS PRETZEL BAKERY circa 1861. We view the original bakery, observe bakers twisting old-fashioned soft pretzels and shop for delicious treats and souvenirs. We may have an opportunity to get a hands-on lesson in the art of pretzel twisting. Lunch today is on your own at the poplar KITCHEN KETTLE VILLAGE. The village is quaint, with fun, unique shops and restaurants. There are many baked goods and other interesting items available for sale throughout the village. The highlight of our tour is the new production at the SIGHT & SOUND THEATRE of QUEEN ESTHER. The story is set in the wealthy yet dangerous Persian Empire. Esther's ordinary life is changed forever when she is taken into a new world of royalty and risk. With a crown on her head and a secret she carries, can she find the courage to trust in God's plan and believe this was to be her destiny? The show offers magnificent sets, special effects and live animals. After the show, we will dine at the GREENFIELD RESTAURANT AND BAR.
FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 2020: After breakfast, we will depart for a tour of the EPHRATA CLOISTER in Ephrata, Pennsylvania. The Ephrata Cloister was a religious community, established in 1732, by Johann Conrad Beissel at Ephrata. We will explore the surviving historic site and discover the history and culture of an intriguing story in our nation's past. Lunch today will be at the SHADY MAPLE SMORGASBOARD. The SHADY MAPLE GIFT SHOP offers an endless selection and variety of fine collectibles and gifts. It is time to depart for home. Our dinner stop will be at a rest stop and is on your own.
