WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2019: Our motorcoach arrives at 6:45 AM to Lorain County Community College, 1005 Abbe Road, Elyria, where we will load luggage and passengers. A breakfast buffet will be served at the John A. Spitzer Conference Center at 7:00 AM. We will depart at 7:45 AM. At WEAVER CHAPEL we will have a guided tour. Located on the campus of Wittenberg University, the Chapel is one of the university's most beautiful buildings. The Chapel contains spectacular stained-glass windows that have been featured in National Geographic. The front panels of the windows depict the history of Wittenberg. We will enjoy lunch on your own at YOUNG'S DAIRY in Yellow Springs, Ohio. After lunch, a docent lead tour of "AT THE MANGER" originating from the ROESCH LIBRARY at the University of Dayton is not to be missed. Marvel at the expansive collection of 3,500 Nativity scenes from more than 100 countries. See how people around the world celebrate, ponder and picture the birth of Christ through many different cultural lenses. Our accommodations for tonight are at the COURTYARD BY MARRIOTT at the University of Dayton. We will have dinner at FRANCO'S RISTORANTE ITALIANO in Dayton. After dinner, we will find ourselves at CLIFTON MILL. Clifton Mill celebrates Christmas in a very special way. 3.5 million lights illuminate the mill, the gorge, the riverbanks, trees and bridges. It is truly a fantastic winter wonderland. The covered bridge is a spectacular site and everyone watching will become mesmerized and completely enthralled with the light display that begins in total darkness and gradually becomes an unbelievable display of glowing lights all set to music. This is absolutely not to be missed. This is one of the top 10 lighting displays in Ohio. Also take time to explore the outdoor MINIATURE VILLAGE, which showcases recreations of many of Clifton's historic buildings and so much more. If you love Santa Claus, the SANTA CLAUS MUSEUM houses a private collection of over 3,000 examples of Santa from as far back as 1850.
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2019: After breakfast, let's travel to the SCHUSTER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER where we will find their holiday animated window displays. The animated elves and animals first appeared in New York in 1943. They made their way to Dayton at Rike's Department Store which was located where Schuster Center not sits. Some of the displays are original and many have been added to the delight of holiday shoppers and passerbys.
Lunch will be at the LA COMEDIA DINNER THEATRE where we will also enjoy a performance of "ELF" The Broadway Musical. ELF is the hilarious tale of orphan child, Buddy, who by mistake crawls into Santa's bag and is transported to the North Pole, where he lives until he is an adult. Buddy, (certainly not an elf) does not know he is human, so with Santa's permission, he travels to New York to find his birth father. This modern-day Christmas classic brings out the true meaning of Christmas with much laughter and fun along the way. Our dinner stop in the Columbus area is on your own and we are to arrive back to LCCC at approximately 8:30 PM.
