The historic WOLF CREEK GRIST MILL was neglected for a long time and was slated for demolition. A small group of people interested in historic preservation and restoration formed a non-profit called, Friends of the Mill Group. Today the Wolf Creek Grist Mill has been restored and is in full operational condition. FROMME CABIN, also in need of restoration, was moved to the property and is now the new Welcome Center. There is also an 1880 saw mill and seven other historic log cabins that have been donated to the site for restoration. There is always something we can learn from our history, so let's see what we can learn on our guided tour about the preservation of these historic structures.
We will dine in the Lakeside Room at the lovely, BELLA BLEU'S AT WATERS EDGE. Within the crisp, rustic dιcor of the restaurant, floor to ceiling windows offer a warm ambiance of natural light as you view the lake and the woodland treeline. We will dine on a buffet-style lunch of Chicken Marsala, Beef Brisket, Grilled Vegetables, Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Green Salad with Dressing, Rolls and Butter, Beverage and Sampler Size Dessert Cakes featuring Carrot, Chocolate and Lemon. There is a small gift shop on the premises. They offer fresh baked goodies including cookies, cupcakes, trail mix bars, candies and their signature cheese spread and whisky stir.
In the afternoon we will have time to explore the Ashland downtown area. There are several little interesting shops, boutiques and stores in this quaint, college town. And later, our group will savor their experience at GRANDPA'S CHEESE BARN. Here we will find smoked meats, over 70 specialty cheeses, Amish country jams, jellies and pickles along with local honey and maple syrup. If you've got a craving for something sweet or chocolaty, this is the place to find delicious handmade chocolates and candies.
